Welcome to St. Christopher's
"Seeking God's Truth, Sharing God's Love
Sunday, August 13, 2017
This is the 10th Sunday after Pentecost. Adult Sunday School with Rev. Madeline begins at 9 am. Join us for a contemplative Letio-Divina reading of our Gospel for the day. We'll ask the question "What is the word inviting me to consider this week?" and share our insights into the text. No preparation necessary, only your willingness to share and listen!
Children's Sunday School begins at 9:30 am, followed by worship services and communion at 10 am.
We meet in the Parish Hall after services for great conversation, delicious refreshments and fragrant coffee. Join us as we celebrate and begin a new week ...
Reverend Madeline Shelton Hawley is our new rector.
Rev. Madeline was born in Galveston and raised in Oak Hill. She grew up at St. David's Episcopal Church, and received her call to ministry when a teenager.
She worked in Episcopal Campus ministry at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit in New Orleans before attending the Seminary of the Southwest. As a Curate at St. James' Episcopal Church in East Austin, she was the only full time staff member and priest as they underwent a Rector transition.
Rev. Madeline is married to the Rev. Christian Hawley, associate Rector at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. They have one dog, MacGyver, and two cats Minerva and Lafitte. She is passionate about art, especially ceramics, and the outdoors. Her current favorite hobby is taking Mac on long walks to look for minnows in the creek at St. Edwards park. She has also begun to explore the complex world of baking, thanks to the Great British Baking Show.
Wednesday Eucharist in Nature ...
While our meditation class is pausing for August, join us for a peaceful experience with other Episcopalians from around Austin.
Join Revs. Madeline and Christion Wednesday, August 16th at 6:30pm for an evening paddle or relaxing walk. We will meet in the parking lot above Zilker Park Boat Rentals (2101 Andrew Zilker Rd, Austin, TX 78746). Anyone wanting to paddle can rent kayaks or canoes there. While those who prefer to walk can saunter down the hike and bike trail toward the lake.
By land and by creek we will rendezvous at Lou Neff Point for our Eucharist. Questions? Give Rev. Madeline a call at the office 512-288-0128
Message from St. Christopher's ...
We are deeply grateful for our wonderful community, for the amazing people who are our parish family.
We include the Whole World in our prayers and ask God's Blessings for all our Families and Friends wherever they may be.
If you have any prayer needs, you can call the church office (512-288-0128) with your request.
Choir Rehearsal -
Choir rehearsal is this Wednesday at 7 pm in the Sanctuary. If you love to sing, consider joining us. We have a joyful time together. No long-term commitment is required. So, join us as we make "a joyful noise to the Lord".
Ann Vail leads our wonderful choir every Sunday. We are so fortunate to have such dedicated musicians.
Our Walking Trail -
One of the most popular areas of the church is the walking trail, which depicts the Stations of the Cross and is used during our Good Friday service. There is always a breeze up on the hill, reminding us of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Our Church -
Our lovely church sits on a small hill looking over the Barton Creek Preserve, giving us a spectacular view of the surrounding area. We continue to enhance the beauty of the grounds with plantings of native Texas wildflowers.
